Second day of filming

Hey everyone, how are you? Today was the second day of editing, and I started editing what will be the dinner scene. This is where they show us how badly our characters get along and how Chara's parents force her to marry this guy no matter what. This scene was really fun to film because my parents and my uncles were there, and they're not exactly great actors, but I'm really grateful to them because they did a good job and put in the effort. Besides, I get along really well with Jose, who was Marcos's actor, and every time we yelled at each other, either I would laugh, or he would, or someone else would, so it was chaotic. But anyway, in the end, we managed, and everything turned out perfectly. For this scene, it was really hard to decide which shots to use, and for some parts, I didn't like any of the ones I had, but I edited them a bit, and I ended up liking them. Then it also edits where most of the credits will go. They will appear in a curve with a background of the arranged table.

First day of editing

Hello again! Now that I have the footage, I was able to start editing the video. Thank God I recorded several times because I realized that in some takes the camera was a bit blurry. Well, to edit I used Clopchamp because I feel much more comfortable editing there, since I've used the same application for other projects. Besides, it's quite easy to use in my opinion and I like it a lot. Today I started editing the videos of the scene where Chara is going to be talking to a friend on her cell phone. This scene is important because it will advance the story a bit and give us context at the same time. I can't explain how complicated this scene was because I had to coordinate with a friend on the phone, and we both had to improvise quite a bit. I thought it was going to be quick, but in the end it was the most complicated of all. Besides, to get to the place where we were going to film this scene, I had to go from my house to Clara's house on a bicycle in heels and a dress. Well, for this scene, I showed the room and how Clara puts on lipstick until her friend calls her and the conversation starts. Here are some screenshots and behind-the-scenes footage. Enjoy!

Well, after all I discovered something new: I can ride a bike with heels.

 Recording the project

Hello blog! Today we finally started filming the project. We started getting ready at 5 pm. Several of my friends came to help me film. The camera operator for this project was Clara Errazuris; she was also the hairstylist for all the actresses. She loves doing hair and she's really good at it. Then my aunt and uncle arrived. My aunt was going to play Chiara's mom and my uncle was going to play Marcos's dad. Clarisa, who was going to play Marco's sister, and Jose, who was going to play Marcos, also arrived. Then Clara and I started doing everyone's makeup and hair. First, Clara did their hair and then I did their makeup. We had a problem with my dad, who didn't like what I was wearing. I told him to put it on, but in the end, he wore it anyway, so it doesn't matter. For my aunt and dad's costumes, since they were going to be Chiara's parents, I told them to wear black because I was going to be wearing black, and I asked my uncle and mom to wear blue and white to contrast the families. At first, my mom was going to play Chiara's mom, but she doesn't know English, so in the end, my aunt played the role to make it easier. We started filming at 6 pm, and it was super fun; I really enjoyed it. Things kept happening during the process, and it was very interesting to hear everyone's suggestions. We had to reshoot some scenes several times, and some we did multiple times to get them right. I think my favorite scene so far is the argument between Marcos and Chiara. Well, here's a behind-the-scenes video. It's in Spanish because it's my native language, but it's still fun.

 Problems whith my actors.

Hey everyone! I wanted to tell you that I had a few minor problems with the actors in my film. Well, on Monday, Facundo told me he'd forgotten that he was leaving for North Carolina on Thursday morning for rugby and wouldn't be able to help me with the project. I panicked completely because he was one of the two main actors, so you can imagine my face and frustration when he told me. So I took it upon myself to find someone who looked similar and asked a friend I don't know very well if he could help me with the project, and thank God he said yes. So I'm eternally grateful to Jose Castañeda for his tremendous help and cooperation.

However, today I was hit with another problem out of nowhere. Camila, who was going to play Marco's sister in the intro, comes out and tells me, "Tomorrow I'm going to Peru," and I'm like, "WHAT?! How? When? Why?" And she says, "I want to see my friends there," and I'm like, shocked. Because Camila's dad is a pilot and she's always going back and forth, so I should have planned for it, but oh well. There I was at 10:30 at night, stressed out about the biology test and because I didn't have an actor for the next day. Well, in the end, after two existential crises, a few tears, and stress, a friend, Clarisa, answered me. I swear that when she answered, I felt the greatest relief of my entire life. No one has ever given me happier news in my life. So, a million thanks to Clarissa Larrazaba for saving my life and my school project.

Well, those were most of my problems this week. Bye!

 Group meating #2.

Hi everyone! Yesterday in class we had our second group meeting with our classmates. These meetings are really interesting and help a lot when planning and deciding what you're going to do because you have outsiders who help you and give you useful ideas about your project and how to achieve what you're imagining. My group yesterday had six of us, including me. I was with Addison, Bella, Ishaan, Oliver, and Gustavo. Everyone was super friendly and cooperative. They gave very useful ideas, and we all got along quite well.

The first person to come and tell us about her project was Addison. She's going to make a psychological horror film. Their idea is this: a couple is in a car accident and the woman dies. That's the context for the first few seconds of the intro. Then they'll show us how the man's life continued after his girlfriend's death. They'll show everything in a dirty, chaotic mess to visually illustrate how it affected him. The guy was traumatized and sank into his own depression. We'll see him still looking at his wife, but through a mirror, to represent that he still hasn't gotten over his loss. The group suggested locations where he could film the accident scene. Gustavo recommended a street where he filmed a project last year.

Then Bella and Gustavo, who are working together on the project, came on. Their idea is to make a kind of comedy-action intro. Basically, it's about a spy or agent who's going to exchange briefcases with a bad guy, but the briefcase he gives her is empty, and they start fighting. They told us that the lead actress is going to be Bella and about the difficulties they had throughout the process, like having a problem with the actors playing the bad guy and having to find a new one. They also showed us super interesting details, like the spy's briefcase, which is different from the typical briefcase; the one they give her is a basic black one, showing the drastic change in her personality from fun to serious. I really loved that detail.

Then Ishaan spoke. He wanted to make a comedy film. His idea was like an intro with some suspense: a guy walking and suddenly getting scared by a car, but it's his friend, and then they start planning a trip with their group of friends. He showed us his logo, and I thought it was incredible, but we felt it was missing something, so we gave him a couple of ideas, like making it silver or gold, and we showed him how to do it. In the end, he liked it.

Oliver went next, and I found his idea super interesting. His film is going to be about a drug deal that ends in a kidnapping. It starts with an exchange, and at that moment, the buyer is kidnapped. Then we see him in captivity, and then he's killed. At that moment, a border on the wall, like a detective's, would be revealed, but instead of being a police investigation, it's a revenge plan to avenge a loved one of the kidnapper. At that moment, we would find out that there are going to be more victims. Oliver has already started filming and showed us a couple of scenes. The group gave him a few tips, like cutting certain parts and re-recording others. For example, there's a scene where you see the victim head-on, and we suggested they re-record it, but in a darker area, so it would still work with the live stream they were using because it was working really well.

Finally, it was my turn. I explained my idea and how I planned to do it, and they told me they liked it a lot and were interested, which made me very happy. They also asked me how I was going to record so many people and where I was going to do it, and I explained. They asked me how I was going to show that they were two different families, and I told them I was thinking of separating the tables, half and half, and they suggested I use colors to show it better.

Well, that's all for today. I really enjoyed this activity; I laughed and thoroughly enjoyed hearing all the ideas and different points of view. Thank you so much for your attention. Have a wonderful day. Bye.

XOXO. Isabella Fraire.

Hello blog! Today I had a really long day because I started making the centerpieces, and that took me half a day. Since the flowers have long stems, I had to cut them, but because the stem has a really hard metal rod inside, I couldn't cut it with scissors. I had to find pliers to cut it. I did that with all 55 flowers. Then I arranged them on the foam I bought, but I didn't like how it looked, so I did it again. Once I liked it, I felt like it was missing something; I wanted to add a ribbon. So this time I went to a store near Cang's that sold more stationery items, and I got some white ribbon and also saw some lights that I liked for decorating.

I also went to Sawgrass Mills to see if I could find any nice decorations for Chiara's room. Something like candles or books, I don't know, that kind of thing. I checked HomeSense, Target, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls to see if I could find anything. And I did find some really nice things. I bought four candles and two air fresheners.

 Dinner decorations

Hello blog! Today I went to pick up the flowers and decorations for the dinner set. I wanted the set to have red, pink, and white colors with touches of gold. That way it would give an elegant look.

To get that, I went to Doral to a store called Chang's Silk Flowers. This store is a wholesaler that has EVERYTHING for decorating. This store has a wide selection of flowers and decorations for parties. I discovered this store when I was looking for centerpieces for my quinceañera, so I already knew what they had, making it quite easy to choose. Besides, I already knew more or less what I was looking for. Also, the flowers are super good quality and quite inexpensive. In the end, I bought about 30 red flowers, 10 white ones, and about 15 roses to make a long arrangement that would cover the table. They also had beautiful gold flowerpots, but I didn't buy any.

 Logo productions film

Hi blog! How are you doing? I hope you're fine. Well, today I started working on my production logo for the intro. I wanted it to be something elegant and stand out. So I chose gold because what color is best for achieving that? I imagined something eye-catching that makes you say "wow." It also had to have a romantic touch, but it also had to be bold. In other words, it had to be simple, elegant, and striking at the same time. I thought about that and came up with a name that convinced me: "Golden Circle Production." Obviously, the logo is gold, so I included it. Then, the circle seems like such an elegant and romantic shape to me because it represents a cycle that has neither beginning nor end. After that, I started imagining what it could look like. I made a few sketches until I arrived at the right one.

In the end, my favorite was the second option because it's easy to remember and very eye-catching; it's colorful and elegant at the same time. So I transferred the sketch to Canva so I could add the animation.

Well, that's all for today. I hope you enjoyed the blog, the ideas, and the explanation. Have a good night!

Carting process
Hello blog, how are you all doing? Today's blog post is going to be about the casting process for the intro. Casting the intro representatives was very complicated because each one had to have a very specific aura. For Chiara, it was mainly complicated because she had to be white with dark eyes (but not black) and very dark brown or black hair. And for Marco, he had to be medium-skinned with black hair and either dark or light eyes. Casting the families was a bit more complicated because there had to be four adults and one child who was going to be Marco's sister.

Chiara
Finding Chiara was quite a challenge because I knew what I wanted, and none of my friends were perfect for the role. Even if they were, they didn't want to help, so the search became complicated. And the red lips had to be perfect. At first, I thought of three friends who I knew would be helpful and who, all things considered, were suitable. Lara is tall, fair-skinned, with dark brown hair and brown eyes, and red lips suit her well. The second, Sofi, has black hair and brown eyes; red lips also suit her well, but the problem is that she doesn't have much hair, and she has natural curls that she wouldn't let me straighten for the introduction. I thought about using a wig, but I'm not sure I like the idea. The third option was Clara; she's very fair-skinned and has super dark hair, but the problem is that she has green eyes, and red lips don't suit her very well, so I had to rule her out. And as a last resort, I could act myself. Well, in the end, the decision was between Lara and me. So I asked Lara to act in a part, but honestly, Lara isn't a very good actress, so in the end I decided that I would act in the intro.

Marco
For Marco, I only had two options, so it was a little easier to choose. Facundo is dark-skinned with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. The second was Martin, who is medium-skinned with brown hair and dark eyes as well. The thing about Martin is that he doesn't like cameras, and he has a girlfriend, and I know she wouldn't let him participate in a romance intro. So I ended up deciding on Facundo since he has a similar personality to Marco.

Then, as secondary characters, Chiara's parents will be my parents, and my aunt and uncle will play Marco's parents. I also wanted Marco to have a sister, so I asked a friend, Camila, who looks quite a bit like him, if she would do me the favor, and she said yes, so that problem is solved.

Well, blog, that's all for today. In the end, the hardest part was choosing Chiara since I didn't have many options for Marco. Okay, byeee

 Aaudio and Music.

Hello blogggggg.Today we're going to talk about one of the most important things for success in the intro project: audio. Without good audio, the quality of your video will decrease significantly, and that will seriously affect it. That's why I've been thinking a lot about how to make my audio perfect. So I decided to buy some small microphones that sound really good. This will ensure good audio quality.

I also decided that I'm going to add background music for the first few shorts. So I started looking for royalty-free music in different places that I could use. I wanted a major piano, meaning strong and very deep. So I searched on websites like Epidemic Sound, Pixar, and BenSound, and I came across many songs that I liked. Currently, I'm very undecided between two songs: "A Piece of Cake" by Beyza and "Cold" by Belladonna Strings. "A Piece of Cake" is a major piano piece, which is more or less what I was looking for—relaxed and calm. However, "Cold" is quite different from what I was looking for; it's a song that's kind of tranquil and mysterious, and I liked it quite a bit too. So I'm kind of undecided about which one to use. What I'm going to do is record the video and then decide which one sounds better.

Well, that's all for today, blog. I hope you had a nice day and good nightttt

 Recording sets and ilumination.

Hi everyone! Today's blog post is going to be about recording sets and the difficulties I've had in the process.

Finding a recording studio was quite difficult, to be honest, it was really hard. At first, I thought about renting a house with all the places I would need, but the truth is, it's very expensive and nothing has really convinced me. I searched on several sites like Airbnb, Vorvo, and Peerspace, and I didn't find anything.

Finally, I decided I'm going to film in several locations for the dinner scene. It'll be in my dining room since the aesthetic is perfect for the dinner shots. Then I have a shot of the stairs when Chiara is coming down; I'm going to film at a friend's house that has some perfect ones. For the shooting shot, I'm going to use my garage. The only problem is the set for Chiara's room since I can't find anything I like or that convinces me. But oh well, I'll think of something. The idea I liked the most so far is using my room, but I'm not completely convinced.

For the lighting, I want a warm, not too harsh light that's calming and comfortable. And during dinner, I want the light to change to a cooler tone so the distance between the characters is more noticeable.

Well, that's all for today. I'm going to continue looking for options for the room.

Costume desing

Costume desing

Hiiii blog, today we're going to look at the costume design for each character.

Chiara

For Chiara, I decided it had to be something elegant but daring. I was thinking of a black dress with some white or maybe some sparkle. I want it to be a statement dress, not so much for the color but more for the texture or shape. For shoes, I was thinking of some basic black heels. As accessories, I'm going to use a necklace I have with some matching earrings. For makeup, red lips and winged eyes, and for her hair, a slightly messy bun.

Marco
For Marco, it will be simpler: a white shirt with black pants and dress shoes. Or, if not, a total black outfit with a black shirt. For the hairstyle, a messy middle part.

Character development

Character development
Hello bloggg, Today we're going to talk about our characters Chiara and Marco. Since it's an enemies-to-lovers story, they have to be different enough but also very similar at the same time.
Chiara Cavallari
Chiara is an Italian name, and since she comes from an Italian mafia family, it seemed like the most fitting name. The name means light and clarity, which is another reason I chose it, as she was like a blessing to the family because her mother, Agnes, couldn't get pregnant, so she was like a miracle for them. Chiara is a 20-year-old woman with a very strong and determined personality. She's the kind of person who lights up a room with her presence; it's impossible not to notice her. She's strong, intelligent, and cunning. She has dark brown hair and brown eyes that perfectly complement her hair, and fair, radiant skin. Her favorite color is red, a warm and striking color, just like her. She loves horseback riding and owns a Friesian horse named Athena. She named her after the Greek goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare..

Marco Moretti
Marco is a serious, reserved, and cold person. He's calculating and always knows what to say and how to say it to provoke or get what he wants. Despite all that, he's charming, and everyone likes him except for Chiara. I chose the name Marco because it's a name with character that means warrior. He's a perfectionist through and through; he can't stand disorder for anything in the world. His parents raised him to be the successor to their empire, so he carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. He's very intelligent and very good at physical combat and with firearms. His favorite color is blue, a cool and calm color.

Well, that's all for today's blog. See you tomorrow!

Research post about one media theory

Research about one media theorys for my intro.

Hello blog! Today I studied media theories to choose which one I would integrate into my intro, and I decided that the best option would be the binary opposition theory. The main idea of this theory is that the viewer sees life through opposing concepts: good vs. bad, fun vs. boring, etc. And since my intro is about enemies to lovers, I think it's the best option because it contrasts how they go from hatred to love, which are completely opposite feelings. This theory was developed by Claude Lévi-Strauss. By being so clear, the opposites create more than just conflict; they generate meaning for the narrative, which advances when the poles clash or transform.

The enemy-to-lover genre generates tension and excitement by making the audience wonder how this drastic change will happen. This theory fits perfectly because the film is based on a clear opposition. Usually, it's not just one opposition, but several. They can be things like hatred to desire, distance to intimacy, etc. All these oppositions create tension, which is what keeps the audience entertained.

In these films, the theory is usually integrated implicitly. At the beginning, the characters are presented in a way that makes them polar opposites, meaning it's made clear that they are completely different in personality or values. Then, discussions, competitions, and misunderstandings are emphasized to clarify or reinforce their differences and oppositions. Visual effects or connections are often used to make this clear, such as opposing shots, contrasting colors, and camera movements that separate the protagonists.  Around the middle of the film, the situation changes; this is when they begin to open up or become more vulnerable with each other, whether through gestures, acts of protection, or a confession. This is the point where the hatred begins to fade. Closer shots, tense silences, and prolonged gazes are often used. This theory also includes the idea that when one pole breaks down, the other begins to emerge. Towards the end of the film, the conflict shifts, changing from hatred versus love to pride versus desire. This is when the characters are indecisive and no longer know what to do or feel. The film's ending arrives when the two characters forget the initial opposition; in theory, this is described as a reconciliation of opposing sides or a war that ends, giving way to peace.

It is for all these reasons that this theory is perfect, as it represents the main conflict of this genre of films.

project idea

Project idea

Hello blogggggg, how are you all doing? Today I'm going to update you on my project idea. Obviously, it's about two people because it's a romance. The context is that their two mafia families are very close friends, but the two of them have hated each other forever. But her family wants to marry her off to a guy she doesn't even know, and she refuses, but her family gives her no choice. And for him to receive his family inheritance, he has to get married. So, for these two reasons, they decide to get married for a year, she gets out of the arranged marriage, and he gets the inheritance.

I wanted it to start with an extreme close-up of the girl's lips, and then the camera would tilt up to her eyes, and she would blink, and when her eyes open, they would be the guy's eyes. Then an inverse zoom, meaning the camera pulls back, and we can see his face. The camera rotates and becomes a point-of-view shot. And we see him pointing a gun at a guy. He shoots, and with a loud noise, everything goes black, and the movie title appears.

Then some scenes of a table and guests arriving. We move to the girl's room where she's talking on the phone with a friend, and she's going to be saying something about how she doesn't want to get married, and the friend will say something like, "Well, then find someone else." Then I want to do a scene of him getting out of the car or arriving at the dinner. And I was thinking of a scene of her coming down the stairs. I want to include the dinner scene where they're kind of treating each other badly, being hostile towards each other.

I have a couple of doubts about whether the timing will work out, but let's hope so. That's all for today, thanks for reading.

XOXO, Isabella Fraire.

Group meeting #1

Group meeting #1

Hello bloggggg. Well, today in class the teacher put us into groups of six to talk about our ideas and get help or external suggestions. This way we not only had one perspective but several. This also allowed us to recommend movies or books to each other for inspiration. It was also very useful for showing us where we needed to improve.

The first one to talk from my group was Bella. She's part of the group, and they chose the action genre, but with a touch of comedy. Their plan is to create an introduction about a sarcastic agent who's good at her job and wants to trick the villain. Their character inspiration was Spiderman, because he accomplishes his mission but also jokes around a lot. They already have their actors and locations chosen, and they're going to film every Monday because that's when everyone is available.  I really liked their idea, and I think they're doing quite well.

Then it was my turn. I explained my idea for the intro, which is about two wealthy families whose children don't get along.  The girl is being pressured into an arranged marriage, which she doesn't want, and the boy has been given a condition to inherit the family fortune he has to get married. So they make a deal to get married for a year so she doesn't have to marry a stranger and he gets his inheritance. I clearly explained that it was an enemies-to-lovers story. Paula recommended a book called "Globes Off," which is very similar to my story. I was also advised to use a lot of symbolism and keep it very simple and direct, since there's a lot to tell or summarize in two minutes.

After I shared my idea and received feedback, the next person in my group, Felipe, went. He also works in a group, and they want to make an intro for a comedy film but mixed with action. His idea is to make a car themed comedy, but not as violent as typical action movies. It's something like Fast and Furious but mixed with comedy. He was given recommendations for filming locations and advised to make sure he didn't need to obtain any permits. We also asked him how he planned to shoot those scenes, and he said they were still figuring that out, but they would probably use a drone he owns.

When Felipe finished, Hely was next to talk about what she was planning to do for her project. She wants to make a psychological horror film. Her idea is to show us the beginnings of a serial killer. It would be like showing us a person who is clearly strange and that there's something wrong with him. She's going to do this by showing us his general behavior. She wants to use sound as a key element. Among the suggestions we gave her, one was about lighting and that she should experiment with it. We also suggested she try using cool tones, especially to create the feeling she wants to convey.

The last person to speak was Paula, and she wanted to work in the same genre as Haly, but the plot was quite different. Paula was thinking of showing us a person with some kind of mental disorder, like schizophrenia. There wasn't much time left, so we could only give her advice, such as focusing a lot on the editing and the setting, and on showing that the person wasn't mentally well.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this activity, I had a great time, and I loved hearing what other people thought about my idea. I also appreciated the recommendations and ideas they gave me; I feel they were very helpful. Well, thanks for reading, bye bye!

Three credit scenes from enemies to lovers

Three credit scenes from enemies to lovers.

Helloooooo blog! Today I'm going to talk about the opening credits of three romantic movies (enemy-to-lovers trope). The movies I chose are: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days from 2003, The Ugly Truth from 2009, and finally, Life as We Know It from 2010.  Basically, in this blog I'm going to tell you the order of the credits.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

For the intro of this first film, we have many magazines that are clearly aimed at women. So the typography for the opening credits of this film is like that of a very colorful magazine, with different styles, some parts with thin lines and others with thick ones. Oranges, purples, greens, and other colors were used, but always maintaining consistency among them. At the beginning of the film, we see the Paramount logo, and then the first credit says "Paramount Pictures Presents" to make it clearer. The next credit is for the associated companies, such as MMP Moviemarkers Productions GmbH & Co. KG. Then it says the producers are Robert Evans and Christine Peters. It also names Lynda Obst Production. It continues with Donald Petrie Film, and then the title of the film with a white background and the same typography. Some of the actors are listed, and then the casting directors, Levin and Andrew S. Brown, are named. Then the music composer, Music by David Newman, and the music supervisor, Dana Millman-Dufine, are credited. They continue with the costume designer, Karen Patch. The film editor is Debra Neil-Fisher. The production designer is Therese Deprez. The director of photography is John Bailey. They continued with the executive producer, Richard Vane. Then they indicated who the authors of the book on which this film is based were: Based on the book by Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long. They named the screenplay writers: Kristin Buckley & Brian Regan and Burr Steers. And finally, but no less important, the director, Directed by Donald Petrie, who was named for the second time at the end.

Life as We Know It (2010)

For the second film, Life as We Know It (2010), it begins with the logos of the following companies: Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadroad Pictures, Gold Circle Films, and Josephson Entertainment, which appear with their animated logos. It continues with the film's title; the typography is very basic, with white letters without an outline, very light and soft, and displayed in normal uppercase and lowercase letters. It continues with the credits, starting with the main cast. Then the music, which was composed by Blake Neely. The costume designer was Debra McGuire. The editing was done by Jim Page. The production design was by Maher Ahmad. The directors of photography were Andrew Dunn, BSC. The executive producers are Denise Di Novi, Scott Niemeyer, Norm Waitt, Katherine Heigl, Nancy Heigl, and Bruce Berman. The producers are Barry Josephson and Paul Brooks. Then the writers, Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson, and finally the director, Greg Berlanti.

The Ugly Truth (2009)

The opening credits of the third film, The Ugly Truth (2009), begin with the logos of Columbia Pictures, Relativity Media, Lakeshore Entertainment, and McCarthy/Marshall Productions. The opening music was "Hot n Cold" by Katy Perry, which speaks of a bipolar love or of opposite poles. It continues with Lakeshore Entertainment presents, followed by A Steven Reuther Production. Then comes Relativity Media in association with. Next, A Robert Luketic Film is shown, followed by the film's title.
